Open access creates an ownership problem
Open banking began as an access question: how customers could authorize data sharing and payment initiation. Its next phase is about accountability when permissions, providers and outcomes cross several organizations.
A clear interface is not enough. Consent, authentication, data quality, service availability and dispute handling need named owners across the full route.
Consent must behave like a control
Consent records should show what was authorized, for which purpose, for how long and through which provider. Changes and revocations must reach every dependent system without leaving an outdated permission active.
Product and compliance teams should design the customer explanation, technical enforcement and audit record as one control rather than three disconnected processes.
Resilience becomes visible
As open-finance services become embedded in everyday financial decisions, outages and stale data have direct customer consequences. Mature operating models measure availability, data freshness, revocation completion, complaint routes and responsibility for recovery.
