Qatar completed the central-bank participation map

Qatar Central Bank joined AFAQ, the Gulf Payments Company’s regional payment system. The Qatar News Agency said Doha Bank, Qatar International Islamic Bank and Dukhan Bank also joined as commercial-bank participants. [1]

The addition completes participation by all Gulf Cooperation Council central banks. The source reported that the network now includes 74 participating banks across the region. [1]

02

Participation is infrastructure, not a volume claim

A common regional payment system can reduce the number of bilateral connections needed for cross-border transfers and can standardize settlement, messaging and operating responsibilities. Central-bank participation provides an institutional foundation for those links. [1]

The announcement did not disclose transaction volumes, processing times, supported currencies, fees or liquidity arrangements. The 74-bank figure should therefore be read as network participation, not measured customer adoption or payment activity. [1]

Operating details will determine the practical value

The next evidence should cover commercial-bank activation, corridor availability, service hours, settlement finality, exception handling and the customer channels through which AFAQ payments become accessible. [1]

finorasjournal reports the network milestone for information and does not present it as a guarantee of cost, speed or availability for any customer or institution. [1]
